About the Calculator
The Interruption Cost Estimate (ICE) Calculator is an electric reliability planning tool developed by Nexant and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This tool is designed for electric reliability planners at utilities, government organizations or other entities that are interested in estimating interruption costs and/or the benefits associated with reliability improvements in the United States. The ICE Calculator was funded by the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability at the U.S. Department of Energy.
Note: This tool is designed to estimate the costs of sustained interruptions lasting up to 16 hours. It is not meant to be applied to major outages or blackouts that last longer than 16 hours.
